DIFFERENT HYDRPONIC SYSTEMS FOR PRODUCTION OF «BERRIES»
Given the growing market interest in Berries production, mainly due to the growth in consumption demand for this type of product, the agricultural technology and equipment sector is focusing its efforts on the development of new hydroponic production systems specialized in these crops.
This is the case of J.Huete International, which in recent years has been developing different production systems in hydroponics adapted to the different crops of Berries.
In any case, all the systems developed have been based on the same philosophy and objectives, that is, adapting to the characteristics, peculiarities and needs of each crop. This base is focused on allowing the correct evacuation of the irrigation drainage and the achievement of a good aeration of the root system, which leads us to reduce the diseases in the plants, their possible transmission along the line of cultivation and the drowning of the roots, all this finally transformed into a higher quality and quantity of fruit.
In the case of strawberry production, being the most widespread crop in terms of Berries range, several systems have been developed depending on the density of lines of cultivation desired in the greenhouse, which will be defined by the varieties that are planted and the radiation levels of the place. Within these systems can find:
- Elevated system.
- The crop lines are separated by about 1m.
- This system is composed of elevated gutters at about 100-120cm from the soil, to facilitate the work with the crop.
- Hanging system.
- The crop lines are separated by about 1m.
- In this system, the gutters hang from the structure of the greenhouse. The main advantage over the raised system is the easy installation of it, as well as greater slope uniformity. Another advantage is that the ground is completely free of obstacles, allowing easy cleaning and ground cover replacements.
- Swinging system.
- The crop lines are separated by about 0.8m.
- In this system, the novelty is based on the increase of the density of cultivation lines through a system that, in the rest state separates the channels by about 0.8m, and when working with the plants, the gutters move laterally to achieve a separation of about 1m between them to facilitate the works to be done.
- Lifting system.
- The cultivation lines are separated by about 0.5m.
- In this system, the novelty is centered in obtaining the maximum possible plant density in the surface of the greenhouse, separating the gutters around 0.5m in state of rest, and allowing that, when working with the crop, some of the gutters (the even lines) go up, and the opposing lines (the odd lines) go down to the desired work height.
With the above-mentioned systems, we choose the optimal level of separation of the crop lines in terms of variety and radiation.
In the case of raspberry, blackberry and blueberry production, when they are shrubs, the production system is different, but always with the same technical base and the same objectives as the strawberry systems. In this case, it is used a system that is installed in the floor and is formed by a gutter with spacer, on which are installed the pots, containers, bags of culture, etc.
